Okay, so I don't know where the maps are. I am pretty sure I did the large outlines and Shane was working on 'digitalising' them. Shane, can you locate the Kage world maps?

I know I had in a large folded sheet of paper. If they are not digitalised, I think i will just scan old ones. In any case I need the maps. (I am actually feeling good about developing Kage again too - especially as there is little interest in other settings).

Ok I found a fair bit of stuff that will hopefully be useful to you Connors. I uploaded it all the the Gar-Sanyan Realms page so all the files are there, they should probably be in other places but it was easier to jsut dump them up into one spot for the time being.

I put up some black and white maps, a few that you had coloured in by hand, as well as the gods relationship maps, the Hazara-Thun documents we had, anything I could find relating to taint and honor and hallowed (which is the Alignment & Reputation doc.

I still have most of the last stuff just sitting on a hard drive on my computer

Thanks. I will look at the maps…and then move them ;) Easy to upload them all to one page now…but then someone has to spend the time to sort them.

It seems most of the other docs are somewhere on the site already anyway. I am checking all that and moving and deleting. I have a coloured map at home of Kage before we merged.

I was just wondering about the ones I redrew with only mountains on A4 sheets, as you were going to do the rest on computer. If that is not done, I might take them and just finish in pencil again and then scan (like the Kodo map).

(I also have all of Kage stuff that we had (I think) in my RPG Folder on my drive I take everywhere. It has ALL my RPing on it. I am chasing specific things in these threads. I will look at the maps you have posted).

So from what was there, you do have the B+W maps I sent down to be filled in and coloured and my old Cellworld coloured maps. That is great to know where they are and they are okay ;)

Now I want to know:

1. Was there ANY progress on filling in the b+w new maps?
2. If not, can I have them back and I will do in pencil (like the Kodo Map).

I understand that pencil may not be ideal for a digital copy, but it will be done and it will be something. These maps have been in Ballarat for years now. I was kinda hoping some progress might have been made. If not, are people fine with me doing them in pencil?

Yea I have them sitting in my office, relatively flat.

1. Yes I have done some, not as much as I should have give then time, and not on the maps where you are looking at playing your campaign. I kind of went away from doing them when we moved away from playing our campaigns in Kage as it didnt seem like we needed them anymore.
2. I'm more than happy at them being done in pencil. While I think they can look really good when done on the computer, I think it would be a lot easier if we had done them in pencil, scanned them in once done and then used the pencil drawing as a template to computerize the image.

Have started doing mountains for the world map, but the file size is pretty huge which is good and bad. Anyway I cropped the Hazara-Thun region and put it up on the site along with province boundaries.

I also put up the full world map on the main page for you to have a look and see how they will look over all.

Awesome! That looks great. Keep it up. I really like the look of the mountains… now for the rest.

Re: HT Map. Cool. Can't wait to see where the terrain features are, but the borders certainly help a lot. I can now picture where these are :) For the Dikan Province - run the border roughly east to the sea. Below that would be Shan.

Actually, if you crop another HT Map, please go just a little lower, so people can see what is below them… ie a little bit of Shan.

These do look great though and it will be a huge advantage to be able to crop certain areas for the mini-settings :)

Yea takes a little time but I'm happy with the results.

Will def crop lower to get a more A4 shaped map. I only went there as that was about as much of the mountains as I had completed when I did it.

Yea it will definitely make a difference and as the base map is in layers, I can add or remove things like boundaries, cities etc.

PLEASE keep going on these. I would love a detailed map with terrain cites, etc for HT.

BTW, I would also like a copy of the stuff/program you are using. Maybe I can have a go at other maps. Those splatter colours looked great for swamps, bush, forests etc. We probably need to decide on which to use for each. If you have my Kage maps there was a colour key for the different pencils in there. That might help.

I can't wait to see more of Kage come alive this way :)

I know there were some different colors that Shane was intending for use to distinguish between forests, jungles and swamps. Not sure exactly how much leeway he has there though.

Now that he's reach the point he has, I need to grab one of those maps and sketch out where a few of the major features are: rivers/lakes, forests, cities. That should help with the next stage of the map.

I thought you had already done that. Yeah, please do so ASAP. The maps and colours and symbols he had were great. Please get something to him. I would love to have a cool map to show the kids and say, "THIS is where you are adventuring." Maps and pics are so good for kids… well and others ;)

I'll make sure to get Blair to do this next time he is in here. Last time he jsut did the province boundaries.

There isn't a lot of leeway with those splatter colors in that I can't change them at all.

There are only about 7 in total and 1 of those is red/rust, which i thought I might use for scrub.

Otherwise I was thinking of going the following:

Dark green = Jungle
Bright Green = Forest
Bluish Green = Marsh/Swap

Though I am working on another way of doing the non-tree areas such as desert, tundra, swap, savanna etc.

Plains, including grasslands and agriculture I was pretty much thinking of leaving as just a dull pale green,

Or use a light yellow/pale green splatter very lightly and a little denser for scrub. No real need for scrub - it is just plains, but with thicker vegetation. I wouldn't use red.

Any advancements on this? I was hoping Blair would have done more than just province boundaries. A quick sketch of main forests, hills lakes and rivers is all you really need right? Rest can be made up.

Yeah, have done. Shane's already working his way through them.

I know I actually had such a map with the major rivers, cities, and forests once upon a time, but it's probably floating around in one of my boxes and, really, there's no reason not to to just do it again now.

Added a new Homelands map to the main page. It is very general in what it shows and I tried to make it readable and as accurate as I could given that what I did have and could determine from out older works is quite hard to make out the exact numbers/names of the areas. If other's could give it a look over adn see if I have made any glaring mistakes, like having the location of a given homeland in the wrong spot or mispelt etc, before I condense them all into one layer (every piece of text is currently a different layer and it gets hard to work with, so if I can condense them to one layer that makes it a lot easier to do other stuff).

Looks good, but I have a few things I noticed:

1. Chandalaya - ie has an 'a' on the end.
2. Shavartra - Damn. I cannot for the life of me find anything on this. There is meant to be a 3E OA web enhancement that I can't find. But I am pretty sure it is everything south of the main mountains.
3. Hu Sen Jungle - is north of mts b/w Shan and Shavartra, bordering Kutan and Del Mts. (ie southern part of Shan as you have it).
4. Bay of Aelis - I think you have double 'i' instead of an 'l'.
5. Shemmat - should just be a small area - not stretching north to the next bay. It is a small ancient ruins area.
6. Steps of the World - b/w Dren and Zamora.

That's it on my look over :)

Cool. Thanks Connors.

1. Fixed
2. Changed spelling which I had wrong. Theres a little in out Homelands write up but I'll have a look for the web enhancement in my stuff.
3. Moved, which reduced the size of Shan but increased the size of Shavartra. Probably increases its size a little as well.
4. Fixed spelling.
5. Adjusted size of Shemmat, is still pretty big but small compared to areas around it. Remembering that these are very rough approximations of teh areas as well.
6. Added Steps of the World name.

Not sure if we ever had a name for the island in the Southern Ocean under Tojar which I ahve marked as ?????. I also named the land mass at the the very south of the map as The Lost Lands, if i remember correctly it was going to be a Jurassic Park type area.

Yeah, I initially had an island like that called Glorantha - that was the name of the isle (it is like a lost world). Not sure about the south bit - that is the mystery ;)

I was just looking at this ENWorld Thread: Galastaire CS

The guy has posted his campaign setting ideas. Initially he did not have a map (and does not like maps), and then he posted one he said took "less than 1 hour"… and it looks pretty damn good to me. (4th post from top).

Used something called Incarnate Maps. Check it out. Might be better/easier than what you are using. The mountains look VG.

I had a look and yes its pretty damn good looking for smallish scale maps, say a country or region, but isn't up to doing Kage as a full size world map as yet, though I might have a play at doing it jsut to see how it goes.

Unfortunately you can't import images or anything into it yet. Remember though it is still in Beta and the guys in charge say they still have a lot that they wish to implement into it, so it may be capable in the future.

Yeah, looks really cool - I will have to have a go for small scale maps, but as you said, the Kage world map looks so 'small' using these features. Cool map at a glance though. :) But we will probably need to go with more detailed/small scale for world/kingdom sized maps.

I take it this was a small play for main map. Many of the main forests for eg are in the wrong spots. But I take it you were just stuffing around to give it a go without my pencil maps in front of you.

I do like the 'feel' or texture of this map. :)

Yea that took me about 20 minutes to throw together and all i really looked at was the general land shapes.

I think it could be great for smaller scale stuff, especially when they add more stuff to it. It's pretty easy to use adn the more familiar you would get with it the more I'm sure you would be capable of. I wonder if they are going to leave it as a free thing online or change it to a cost package.

Regardless I think there is enough in it now to do small campaign style maps. I'll put a quick on of the Vale of Callus that I did and let you see what a small area can look like.

Okay, I just gotta say, "That looks awesome!". Well, I have already said that above, actually. But, yeah, I REALLY like the colours you have used and it just looks like a cool world and setting you would now want to adventure in. Having the map will make it SO much easier to reference etc. And attract players to the site. And make it easier now for me to set games there.

I keep coming back and looking at this. I really like it. Makes me feel like Kage exists now ;)

One thing, especially noticeable when you zoom in is the black lines around lakes looks odd. I would have just left as all blue, no black line around them. If you can remove; if they are not a separate layer ignore. Just a thought. I love zooming in to see the details on places like the islands. Super job.

Volcanoes

I notice you have volcanoes on the island (of Glorantha). Perhaps you could add the others too. Might need to check the pencil maps I had.

Djana. Eastern mountains are actually called the Basalt Mts well known for their volcanic activity.
Danatha. The southern mountains are known as Surtr's Furnaces. Again pretty obvious there are volcanoes there.
Gar-Sanya. I am sure the mts surrounding this region had volcanoes. The Takanda Mts mention they have some.
Water Realms. The Land of Fire & Ice got its name from volcanic activity. I reckon a couple of the Dragon Isles could also feature volcanoes for our ruling red dragons ;)

hey guys, i also think you have done an awesome job with the map shane. i did notice that some of the islands, peninsulas, land masses between the two maps changed shape slightly. i am also reading a book about farmers in australia 100 years ago and about how when they first received land of the government they were paid to clear the land and make it suitable for crop production. it got me thinking about some of the wilderness areas of the map where large scale farming may not be established, should there be more in the way of forests/scrub, maybe you assume that a lot of it is scrub land and only note the larger forests. if this is the case fair enough, but i would think there should be a lot more in the way of forest/woodlands/ undeveloped land. just a thought.

Thanks Nicko.

Just note that the two maps are not exactly the same. The one noting the region names generally includes some water around the land masses so while it kind of looks like they have changed the land masses are the same, this one is just showing who controls that area kind of thing.

Also remember that this is a world scale amp only showing up areas of considerable note. There are going to be a lot more forests, scrub etc when a more local map is done for a region but if I did that on that grand a scale then I might as well nearly paint teh whole map in forest adn scrub and be done with it cause area's around towns that have been cleared would be hardly noticeable a the world scale.

Oh and yes I can add some more volcanoes at some stage.
