I like the idea of rival religions and a Celestial Court suits oriental realms. But I was wondering whether Blair could elaborate more on it. How does it fit the world?

Sounds like spirit worship with shamans, but an ordered hierarchy?

So clerics follow the normal Gar-Sanyan Pantheon and shamans the Celestial COurt?

What would shugenjas be considered?

I am just wondering how this comes into play in the world. Who is actually likely to worship the CT as opposed to the GSP? The CT seems an odd blend of rural and yet seems appropriate for court officials? I am a little confused at how the two go together and who would side with which?

The Celestial Court was originally written as a rival to the standard human pantheon (you may have noticed that my settings always involve two rival religious orders!). As it stands within the Kage setting, I'm thinking a rewrite of the formation of the Court.

I see them now as a branch of animism, drawing from spirits from the Fey. Specifically those with ties to nature (ie. stuff that originates in the natural world, not brought in from the Fey itself). I don't really see there being any kind of hierarchy. I think that's a concept that's been imparted onto them by mankind.

Depending on how you're imagining them, I would have shugenja following the Court.

There's a few other options… Not sure if you read the article in UA today, but another option would be to write them as Mystics (I haven't read that article fully yet - yes, I know it's psionics, not religion, but we could use psionics as the basis for the Celestial Court). Another option would be to write them as earth worshipers, for which I'd probably want to use druid. You could even go so far as to say that all worshipers of the Court are druids, and not have to worry about clerics that way.

I don't see them as appropriate for court officials. The Celestial Court is generally considered a crude, throw-back religion by the ruling class, so I doubt they'd get a very warm response or much influence in court.

Cool. This is just spirit worship. It is just the name that throws me then. Celestial Court sounds like a regimented order of organised deities. In fact that would be a better name for the deities of Gar-Sanya. WE could refer to the pantheon as the CC and then have the spirit worshipers.

That makes clerics for the deities and druids and shugenjas for the spirits. (Though I have seen an awesome shaman done as a domain for clerics). I would not go with psionics. I would like to link them more strongly with the aberrations (and hence the Dark God) and those that are developing abilities to combat them.

I love that there are rival religions BTW. I just can't picture something call the CC being a bunch of ancient throughback spirits. SOunds like a very ordered pantheon to me. So maybe just a name switch and we are ready to go.
